Paige St., Amherst, MA

The yard at this property was left mostly bare following the completion of an addition to the house. This provided a great opportunity to develop a garden the homeowners had always wanted. The basis for this design was to use plant material intended to promote birds and pollinators to create a peaceful and private space. Trees and shrubs were carefully selected to provide food and habitat for birds and pollinators, while also maintaining visual engagement throughout the year. In order to minimize the amount of lawn, the garden is bordered by a small wildflower meadow. Consisting of native perennials and grasses, the meadow gives the garden a country-cottage feel, although it is only a short walk to downtown Amherst. A simple yet elegant Goshen stone walkway leads to the front door.
